Katy Perry..........................Katy Perry original name Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, (born October 25 1984 Santa Barbara California U.S.) American pop singer who gained fame for a string of anthemic and often sexually suggestive hit songs as well as for a playfully cartoonish sense of style. Perry's first attempts to make it with mainstream artists were not successful. Perry was signed to two labels before being then dropped by both labels before there was a release date for any of her recordings. In 2007, however, Capitol Records put out Perry's EP Ur So Gay which attracted only a little attention because of its flippant title track. The song I Kissed a Girl was a more assertive ode sexism with a sharp edged electronic-pop beat. The track quickly caused controversy as some critics derided the song for encouraging sexual relations between gays and lesbians and others charged that the racy scenario it depicted catered to the fantasies of males about female sexuality. I Kissed a Girl, an enthralling combination of sexual satire with a refined melody helped I Kissed a Girl to achieve the number one spot across the world and boost sales for her album One of the Boys. Its bouncy, sharp-tongued and bouncy song, the second Hot N Cold also proving to be a hit, the album that Perry wrote herself eventually registered the sales of over three million copies in the United States.
