Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell, an American journalist and commentator who works with NBC News in Washington D.C., is a television anchor. She earned an Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature from the University of Pennsylvania after growing to be a part of New York City. Mitchell was recruited as a reporter for KYW Radio and TV Philadelphia in 1967. In 1976, she joined the CBS-affiliated WDVM-TV in Washington DC (then WTOP). She was promoted to Washington general correspondent with NBC News two years later. She started covering the White House in 1981 and was appointed chief congressional correspondent by 1988. She was made chief White House correspondent by NBC News in the year 1992. Mitchell participated on the TV show Meet the Press and also hosted the program. Mitchell was a panelist during 1988's presidential debates, in which George Bush against Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married with Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell received the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism in 2005 from the John F. Kennedy School of Government. The Radio-Television News Directors Association awarded Mitchell Leonard Zeidenberg the award in 2004 for her role in defending First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell first covered for the White House for NBC News between 1981 and 1988 during the entirety of the terms of President Ronald Reagan. She reported on a variety of noteworthy stories including arm control, budget tax reform, and the Iran-contra scandal and was frequently with the President Reagan to meetings with Mikhail Gorbachev and other world top leaders.
